Human Rights Day
On this day in 1948 the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. "Whereas recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world," the declaration begins. International Rights Advocates is dedicated to defending Human Rights across the world and creating accountability when those rights are violated.
In honor of Human Rights Day, please help us end one of the most egregious human rights violations that exists in the world today: Child Slavery in the cocoa sector. Our plan has two main components:
1. Put Child Slaves in Schools.
2. Fund the schools by creating a monitoring system that requires cocoa plantations to submit to random inspections. In return, they are certified as being child labor free.
We are currently raising money to return to Cote D’Ivoire to map the cocoa plantations and identify the main areas where thousands of child slaves are still harvesting cocoa for the large multinationals, including Nestle and Cargill, that continue to profit from child slavery.

Connected to this initiative is a new film directed by Miki Mistrati about our work in filing human rights cases against Nestle and Cargill in an effort to force them to keep their promises made decades ago to stop allowing child slaves to harvest their cocoa.
